On Thursday 30 October, answering an invitation extended by Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong, His Excellency M. Jean-François Desmazières, Ambassador of France to Cambodia paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation.

Upon his arrival, the French Ambassador was warmly greeted by the President of the Foundation and his team. Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong then extensively explained to his guest the reasons why he had established the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation, before detailing its activities. Samdech Preah Mahessara especially insisted on its willingness to follow the eminent example set by Their Majesties the King-Father, the Queen-Mother and the King, by providing direct and philanthropic support to the Cambodian people. The President of the Foundation mentioned that he was thus hopeful to bring, at his own level, a complementary assistance to the existing programmes of fight against poverty.

A son arrivée, l’Ambassadeur de France a été chaleureusement accueilli par le Président de la Fondation et son équipe, puis Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong lui a longuement expliqué les raisons pour lesquelles il a fondé la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong, avant d’en détailler les activités. Samdech Preah Mahessara a notamment insisté sur sa volonté de suivre l’éminent exemple de Leurs Majestés le Roi-Père, la Reine-Mère et le Roi en apportant une aide directe et désintéressée au peuple cambodgien. Le Président de la Fondation a précisé qu’il espère ainsi offrir une contribution complémentaire, à son niveau, aux divers programmes de lutte contre la pauvreté déjà existants.

Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong explained to His Excellency the Ambassador that while providing free computer and English classes in Phnom Penh, the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation was increasingly focusing its assistance to deprived schools and students in the rural areas, not only to promote literacy and reading habits through donations of notebooks, textbooks and novels, but also to develop vegetable planting and fish raising. The latter activities should indeed ensure a richer and more balanced diet for the children and teachers as well as minimum food self-sufficiency within the supported schools. Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong added that in the near future, the Foundation would provide the rural poor with free assistance to repair their houses, often too much dilapidated to provide a proper shelter. The French Ambassador paid great attention to the explanations of the Samdech Preah Mahessara and encouraged the Foundation to further work in this direction.

Ces deux dernières activités doivent en effet permettre d’assurer une alimentation des élèves et enseignants plus riche et plus équilibrée en même temps qu’une certaine autosuffisance alimentaire au sein de chaque école. Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong a enfin ajouté que la Fondation souhaite encore à l’avenir apporter son assistance aux pauvres des zones rurales en leur offrant la réparation gratuite de leurs maisons trop souvent délabrées pour les abriter convenablement. L’Ambassadeur de France s’est montré très intéressé par les explications de Samdech Preah Mahessara et a encouragé la Fondation à poursuivre dans cette voie.

Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong then invited the Ambassador to visit the Foundation classes, where English and computers skills and taught. The Ambassador was thus able to attend a class during which several students of diverse profiles were learning computer skills, and to exchange some words with the English teacher who was also present. The Foundation’s guest expressed his high appreciation towards this teaching of knowledge increasingly necessary to be hired for a first job. He was especially delighted to see that the Foundation was doing its best to promote computer knowledge among all.

L’Ambassadeur a ainsi pu assister à un cours de pratique de l’informatique dispensé à des étudiants venus d’horizons variés. L’Ambassadeur de France a également pu échanger quelques mots avec l’enseignant d’anglais présent sur place. L’invité de la Fondation a exprimé sa haute appréciation quant à cet enseignement de connaissances de plus en plus nécessaire pour l’obtention d’un premier emploi et s’est notamment félicité de voir que la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong s’efforce de rendre la connaissance de l’informatique accessible à tous.

After almost two hours of visit, the French Ambassador bid farewell to Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong and his team while renewing his warmest congratulations and encouragements to them. Samdech Preah Mahessara invited him to join a future mission to be undertaken by the Foundation in province.

On 25 November 2008, the Ambassador of Germany paid a visit to Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong to officially hand a donation of computer equipment to the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation.

This is the second time that the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany makes such a donation since the Foundation was established.

Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong and his team warmly welcomed the Ambassador and chatted with him during more than one hour, discussing the projected expansion of the Foundation’s activities among other topics. The Prince especially expressed his deep gratitude towards his guest who was providing material support to the Foundation for the second time already.

The German Ambassador then officially handed over the donation to the President of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation: 9 central units, 1 monitor and 4 laser printers. This important donation will enable the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation to further expand its computer skills teaching activities, with the opening of a new class in province now becoming a possibility.

Following a series of public holidays in November, the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation has been facing a new surge in the demand for classes of computer skills and English.

In order to be able to answer to this ever growing interest for the free classes it is offering, the Foundation has opened new classes of both English and computer skills, especially in the evening. As a result, more and more students fill the Foundation’s classrooms at the end of the day, to come and learn as much as they can.

Après la période de vacances et de jours fériés caractérisant le mois qui vient de s’écouler, la rentrée s’est traduite, pour la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong, par une forte augmentation de la demande de cours d’anglais et d’informatique.

Afin de répondre à ce regain d’intérêt manifesté par la population envers les services gratuits qu’elle propose, la Fondation a ouvert des classes supplémentaires dans les deux matières, en particulier le soir. Ainsi, les salles de classes voient-elles affluer en fin de journée de nouveaux étudiants qui viennent satisfaire leur soif d’apprendre.

These students are very happy to catch the opportunity offered to them by the Foundation and to be able to learn English and computer skills free of charge; obviously the information has been well circulated amongst those who cannot afford paying fees to learn such skills. All of them have expressed their gratitude to the Foundation and its President and all are doing their best to remember and put into practice what they are being taught.

Les étudiants sont très heureux de cette opportunité d’apprendre gratuitement l’anglais et l’informatique qui leur est ainsi offerte et l’information a manifestement très bien circulé parmi ceux qui n’ont pas les moyens de s’offrir des cours payants. Chacun exprime sa reconnaissance à la Fondation et à son Président et tous fournissent de gros efforts pour retenir et reproduire les notions enseignées.

A supplementary computer class is therefore taught everyday, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm while a supplementary English class is also open from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Each class welcomes 15 students. As a result, during this second session, a total of 22 classes are taught every week, namely 12 classes of computer skills per week and 10 classes of English per week.

During the computer skills classes, teaching are made of both theory and practice. As for the English classes, the class focuses on everyday conversation in order to be able, in the long run, to use this language in a professional environment.

The Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation is thus carrying on with its free classes in the capital-city while several new missions for the benefit of rural schools are being planned for the coming months.

Ainsi, tous les jours de 17 heures à 18 heures, a désormais lieu un cours supplémentaire d’informatique. De même, chaque jour également, a lieu un cours

supplémentaire d’anglais, de 17h30 à 18h30. Chacun de ces deux cours est dispensé à des classes de 15 élèves. Ainsi, pour cette deuxième session, un total de 22 cours est assuré chaque semaine, soit 12 cours hebdomadaire en informatique et 10 cours hebdomadaires en anglais.

En informatique, un enseignement alliant théorie et pratique permet à chacun d’apprendre et de perfectionner ses connaissances. En anglais, le cours de conversation apprend aux élèves à être capables de communiquer dans la vie de tous les jours mais aussi, à terme, dans un cadre professionnel.

La Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong poursuit ainsi ses activités d’enseignement gratuit dans la capitale, tandis que de nouvelles missions au profit des écoles rurales sont en préparation pour les mois à venir.

The Foundation team was warmly welcomed by the principal, the teachers, and the students at Ang Pra Soeu Primary School.

After the Wishing Dance by the talented students of the school, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong, provided them with 20,000 riels and other 20,000 riels to the traditional music team, and he also gave a friendly talk and some advice to them to help preserve our Khmer traditional arts.

More importantly, the Venerable Monk, the Principal, and the students were overjoyed to hear that the King Father, the Queen Mother, and His Majesty the King also helped the Foundation to donate all the materials to them.

On the same day, the Foundation team continued the trip to Champa Loeuk Primary School to provide 230 books 7 spades, 7 digging hoe, 7 shovels, 1 cleaver, 1 axe, and 23 novels for the library to fulfill the promise the Foundation made during the first visit last month.

Le même jour , l’ équipe de la Fondation a poursuivi son voyage en direction de l’école primaire de Champa Loeuk pour y remettre 230 manuels scolaires, 7 bêches, 7 pelles, 7 râteaux, 1 couperet et 23 romans, tenant là encore une promesse faite lors d’une première visite effectuée sur place, le mois dernier.

The school offered a very warm hospitality to the Foundation team. Then, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong held a friendly talk with the Principal and the teachers, and the same time, appreciated the valued effort exerted by them to help educate the students to become good and responsible citizens in the society, and encouraged them to continue the endeavor to that the country would have sufficient human resources to help build the nation in the future. Meanwhile, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong also gave away US$ 20 to two nuns who were present at the school during the visit. The Principal, the teachers, the students, and the two nuns, in return to the good deed, expressed their high gratitude, appreciation, and respect to the King Father, the Queen Mother, His Majesty the King, and Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong, and also wish all the Royal Family members the best.

Là aussi, l’école a réservé un chaleureux accueil à l’équipe de la Fondation. Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong a ensuite tenu une discussion informelle avec le Directeur et les enseignants et a exprimé sa vive appréciation envers leurs efforts visant à encourager les enfants à devenir des citoyens responsables. Le Président de la Fondation les a encouragé à continuer sans relâche à former les ressources humaines qui contribueront à édifier la Nation à l’avenir. Before leaving the school, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong and the rest of the team visited the library, placed the donated novels on the shelves, and have taken some pictures with the teachers and students at the library as a souvenir.

The third destination of the Foundation Team was Sok An Mongkul Mean Leak Primary School. Like the two other schools, the Principal, teachers, and students extended their heartfelt welcome to the delegates and a small talk was held with the Principal and teachers of the school. The number of books and other material given to the school was the same as the two other school: 230 books, 7 spades, 7 digging hoe, 7 shovels, 1 cleaver, 1 axe, and 23 novels for the library.

La troisième destination de l’équipe de la Fondation a été l’école primaire Sok An Mongkul Mean Leak. Une nouvelle fois, le Directeur, les enseignants et les élèves ont réservé un excellent accueil à l’ équipe et à Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong avec lequel ils ont été heureux d’échanger quelques mots. Les dons ont été les mêmes que pour les deux autres écoles : 230 manuels scolaires, 7 bêches, 7 pelles, 7 râteaux, 1 couperet et 23 romans.

From the initiative of the President of the Foundation, they would learn to love doing all of these which are good activities and can be served as example for other schools to follow.

La Fondation a ainsi fourni 2,000 jeunes poissons à l’école primaire Champa Loeuk pour créer un élevage dans l’étang de l’école ainsi que 7 bêches, 7 râteaux, 1 couperet et 1 hache pour la culture des légumes. Le Directeur, les enseignants et les élèves ont été très heureux de recevoir ces dons car ils n’avaient auparavant jamais reçu d’assistance dans cet important domaine. Grâce à l’initiative du Président de la Fondation, ils vont apprendre à développer et à apprécier ces activités essentielles et pourront ainsi créer un modèle pour les autres écoles.

Like the first school, the Principal and teachers were very delighted and were eager to raise fish as it would give them nutritious food and would probably be able to be sold to generate some income for the school and they could make use of the income to buy more materials for vegetable planting.

Après l’école Champa Loeuk, l’école primaire Sok An Mongkul Mean Leak a à son tour bénéficié de l’assistance de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong pour le développement des cultures potagères et de l’élevage de poissons. Là encore, les enseignants ont été extrêmement heureux de recevoir les dons en outils et jeunes poissons qui leur permettront non seulement d’avoir une alimentation saine mais aussi de générer des revenus pour l’école, en vendant une partie de leur production, et d’acheter ainsi plus de matériel.

During the visit, Venerable monk, the abbot of a pagoda in Taphem Village, Tram Kok District, Ta Keo Province, requested some fingerlings to be raised in the pond of the pagoda which was digged by Samdech Euv Team.

Au cours de la mission, un Vénérable responsable de la pagode du village de Taphem, dans la province de Ta Keo a demandé à la Fondation s’il était possible de lui fournir également des jeunes poissons pour l’étang de son monastère qui a été creusé par l’Equipe Samdech Euv.

In response, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong provided 2,000 fingerlings to pagoda. The abbot was so glad and wished the Foundation a great success in its mission to help provide alleviate poverty in the country, and also wished King Father, the Queen Mother, His Majesty the King long lives and prosperity, and wished Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong a great success in his endeavor to lead the Foundation to achieve its objectives.

En réponse, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong a offert 2,000 jeunes poissons à la pagode, pour la plus grande joie du Vénérable. Celui-ci a souhaité à Samdech Preah Mohessara et à la Fondation de poursuivre avec succès leur mission de réduction de la pauvreté et a souhaité longue vie et prospérité à Leurs Majesté le Roi-Père et la Reine-Mère, ainsi qu’à Sa Majesté le Roi.
