On 15 March 2010, the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation expanded its outreach to one more school in Kompong Speu province: the Ksach Poun Primary School, located in Oudong districts. This is the 10th school located in Kompong Speu province that is being supported by Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation

As they had heard of the support extended by the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation to other primary schools in the province, the Director and the teachers of the Ksach Poun Primary School had decided to establish contact with Samdech Preah Mohessara’s representatives since early 2010, in order to request his support. Indeed, although the policies implemented by the Royal Government have led to tremendous improvements in education in Cambodia, the Ksach Poun Primary School still faces difficulties especially due to the lack of pedagogical tools and overloaded classes. These difficulties have led to a higher rate of school failures despite the ever increasing rate of school enrollment in the region.

When Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong learned about the request for support formulated by the Director and teachers of Ksach Poun Primary School, he immediately expressed the wish to visit the school with the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation team, in order to discuss with its representatives and assess its situation and needs. The Director and the teachers of the school, who had not hoped for such a quick feedback, reserved a warm and emotional welcome to the Prince upon his arrival.

After a thorough discussion with the Director and the teachers, and after having visited the school premises as he always does, the President of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation offered to the school’s children a total of 440 textbooks covering all topics from Primary School Year 1 to Primary School Year 6. This major donation will help to improve learning conditions in classes where there is often less than one textbook available for two students.

Following the textbooks distribution, Samdech Preah Mohessara and the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation team went to take a souvenir picture along with the Director, the teachers and the students of the school. The President of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation then left the Ksach Poun Primary School to take the road back to Phnom Penh under the grateful acclamation of his hosts.

Ayant entendu parler de l’action menée par la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong auprès autres écoles primaires de la province, la direction et les enseignants de l’école primaire Ksach Poun se sont résolus à prendre contact avec les représentants de Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong, au début de l’année 2010, pour solliciter son soutien. Si la situation générale de l’éducation au Cambodge s’est en effet largement améliorée au fil des ans grâces aux politiques mises en œuvre par le Gouvernement Royal, l’école primaire Ksach Poun continue cependant de rencontrer diverses difficultés notamment liées au manque de matériel pédagogique et à la surcharge des classes. Ces difficultés entraînent un taux d’échec scolaire toujours élevé malgré la hausse continue du taux de scolarisation dans la région.

Ayant pris connaissance de la demande d’aide formulée par la direction et les enseignants de l’école primaire Ksach Poun, Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong a immédiatement souhaité se rendre sur place en compagnie de l’équipe de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong afin, comme à son habitude, de sonder les représentants de l’école sur l’état et les besoins de leur établissement. Le directeur, les enseignants et les élèves ont à cet égard réservé un accueil ému et chaleureux au Prince, dont ils n’avaient pas espéré une réaction si rapide.

A l’issue de la séance de discussion et de la visite de l’établissement, le Président de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong a remis aux élèves un total de 440 manuels scolaires couvrant toutes les matières de la 1ère à la 6ème année du cycle primaire. Cette aide décisive contribuera à améliorer considérablement les conditions d’enseignement, dans des classes où il y a souvent moins d’un manuel pour deux élèves.

Pour conclure la visite, Samdech Preah Mohessara et l’équipe de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong ont posé parmi le directeur, les enseignants et les élèves, comblés et heureux, pour une séance de photo souvenir. C’est sous les applaudissements reconnaissants de ses hôtes que le Président de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong a ensuite pris le chemin du retour vers la capitale.

Field visit and supplementary support to the vegetable gardens of schools located in Ta Keo province

On 20 March 2010, Mr. Nhem Sambath Sokha, representative of Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong, undertook a field visit to three schools located in Ta Keo province, where vegetable gardens have been developed with the support of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation: Ang Prasae Primary School; Champa Leuk Primary School; Sok An Mongkul Mean Leak Primary School.

On this occasion, the representative of Samdech Preah Mohessara inspected progress made by the vegetable gardens in all three schools as well as the quality of the maintenance ensured by teachers and pupils. Furthermore, in the name of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation, he donated two watering cans to each school. This donation was particularly appreciated by the school representatives, at a time when the dry season is the hottest.

Besides the 3 above mentioned schools supported by the Foundation, Mr. Nhem Sambath Sokha took advantage of his trip to offer two more pairs of water cans to two other schools located in Ta Keo province: Ang Chum and Ta Kaem Primary Schools.

Back in Phnom Penh, Mr. Nhem Sambath Sokha submitted a detailed mission report to the President of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation.

A l’occasion de ces visites, le représentant du Président de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong a inspecté les progrès enregistrés par les jardins potagers des 3 écoles et la qualité de la maintenance assurée par les enseignants et leurs élèves. Au nom de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong, il a en outre offert à chacun des établissements 2 arrosoirs un présent particulièrement apprécié alors que la saison sèche atteint son paroxysme.

Outre ces 3 établissements soutenus de longue par la Fondation, Monsieur Nhem Sambath Sokha a en outre offert 2 arrosoirs à 2 autres écoles primaires de la province de Ta Keo disposant déjà de leurs propres jardins potagers : les écoles primaires d’Ang Chum et de Ta Kaem.

De retour à Phnom Penh, Monsieur Nhem Sambath Sokha a soumis un rapport détaillé au Président de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong.

On 15 February, Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong and the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation’s team paid a visit to the Hun Sen Veang Chas Primary School and to the Preah Srae Primary School, both located in Kompong Speu province.

Last year, the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation had already supported both schools through the distribution of respectively 408 and 398 textbooks to their children learning from Primary Year 1 to Primary Year 4. Following these donations, the President of the Foundation had promised to come back and complete the distributions by offering textbooks covering Primary Year 5 and Primary Year 6 and some supplementary textbooks for Year 4.

It is therefore with genuine cheerfulness that the teachers and pupils of both schools gave an overwhelming welcome to the Prince and his team upon their arrival.

Thanks to the clement weather at this time of the year, it became possible to organize the usual meetings and donation ceremonies in the court yard of the Hun Sen Veang Chas Primary School, which make the children all the more cheerful. In Preah Srae Primary School, the same events were organized in the meeting room with all doors and windows kept opened.

As usual, Samdech Preah Mohessara took the opportunity to discuss the state of the schools with their directors as well as their most pressing needs. Besides the lack of equipment, the issue of overloaded classes was also raised. The Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation is presently trying to develop support programs to divide overloaded classes in two sessions in order to help the fight against still very high rate of scholar failure. Such programs however require supplementary funds that the Foundation is currently trying to gather amongst potential donors.

Then came the official ceremony during which all participants were extremely happy to see the Samdech Norodom Racvivong fulfill its promise. H. R. H. Prince NORODOM Chakrapong distributed 300 textbooks to all children studying in Primary Years 4, 5 and 6 at Hun Sen Veang Chas Primary School and Preah Srae Primary School.

At the end of each ceremony, the director, teachers and children of the Primary Schools warmly expressed their gratitude to Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong and to the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation for these generous donations, before wishing them a very pleasant trip back to Phnom Penh.

Au cours de l’année passée, la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong avait déjà apporté son soutien à ces écoles primaires avec la distribution de respectivement 408 et 398 ouvrages et manuels scolaires aux élèves des 4 premières années du cycle primaire. A l’issue de cette première visite, le Président de la Fondation avait promis de revenir distribuer compléter cette distribution en remettant des ouvrages aux élèves de 5ème et de 6ème année ainsi que quelques ouvrages supplémentaires de 4ème année.

C’est donc avec effervescence que les enseignants et les élèves de chaque établissement ont accueilli le Prince et son équipe à leur arrivée sur place.

La température clémente de la saison aidant, les habituelles discussions sur l’état de l’établissement et les séances de distributions ont put se faire en plein air, dans la cour de l’école Hun Sen Veang Chas, pour le plus grand plaisir des enfants. A l’école Preah Srae les discussions et la cérémonie se sont déroulées comme d’habitude dans la salle de réunion, toutes portes ouvertes.

Comme de coutume, Samdech Preah Mohessara a saisi cette occasion pour faire le point avec les directeurs sur l’état de chaque établissement ainsi que sur leurs besoins. Outre le manque de matériel, la question habituelle de surcharge des classes a également été abordée. La Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong essaye en effet actuellement de développer des programmes permettant le dédoublement des classes afin de lutter contre l’échec scolaire dont le taux reste malheureusement encore très élevé. La mise en place de programmes de ce type nécessite cependant des fonds supplémentaires que la Fondation s’efforce actuellement de trouver auprès de donateurs potentiels.

La distribution de manuels scolaires s’est ensuite déroulée, dans la bonne humeur, chacun étant heureux de voir la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong tenir sa promesse. C’est ainsi que dans chaque établissement, le Prince NORODOM Chakrapong a remis 300 manuels aux élèves des classes de 4ème, 5ème et 6ème année, aussi bien dans l’école primaire Hun Sen Veang Chas que dans l’école primaire Preah Srae.

A l’issue de chaque cérémonie de remise des manuels, les directeurs, les enseignants et les élèves des établissements ont vivement remerciés Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong et la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong de ces généreux dons, avant de leur souhaiter un excellent voyage de retour vers Phnom Penh.

On 15 January 2010, Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong and the Samdech Norodom Racvivong’s team undertook a new mission to the Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei Primary School, located in Kompong Speu province, in order to bring supplementary support so as to further improve the learning environment.

Back in 2009, the President of the Foundation had already distributed 359 textbooks to the school’s pupils studying in Primary Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4. At that time, the Prince had promised to come back and finish this distribution by distributing textbooks covering all topics studied in Year 5 and Year 6 while completing the distribution to the 4th Year students.

The director, teachers and students of the Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei Primary School were therefore overjoyed when they learnt that Samdech Preah Mohessara would fulfill his promise in the first weeks of this New Year. Given the fact that their school is bearing the name of Her Majesty the Queen-Mother, each and every one of them was all the more moved to see that they were continuously benefit from the support of a senior member of the Royal Family.

After the ritual discussion with the school’s director and teachers, the President of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation proceeded with the distribution of 300 textbooks covering all topics of Year 4, 5 and 6 to the young student who had been eagerly waiting to also have their own books. In a region where, despite the numerous improvements brought by the Royal Government, classrooms remain overloaded by too many children sharing very few textbooks, such a distribution can have a very positive effect on the learning environment and therefore contribute to reducing the rate of failures which remains too high.

After the distribution of textbooks, Samdech Preah Mohessara also offered a wholly equipped computer set to the school (a central unit with its screen and a printer-scanner-photocopy machine) thus answering another request made by the director of the Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei Primary School. Besides giving the opportunity to initiate the children to IT skills, this computer will especially allow the school to modernize and rationalize its administrative management.

Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong furthermore announced that the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation would keep on supporting the Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei Primary School in 2010, especially by offering 10 more computers with which a whole class of computer skills will be able to open. The director and the teachers of the school welcomed with cheerfulness this declaration by which the President of the Foundation was answering a requested they had earlier formulated.

At the end of this moving mission, and after the usual souvenir picture taken with the director, teachers and children of the Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei Primary School, Samdech Preah Mohessara and his team went on their way back to the capital city. Before their departure, their hosts requested that the Prince transmit their very respectful and affectionate wishes to Their Majesties the King, the King-Father and the Queen-Mother.

Dans le courant de l’année 2009, les élèves de l’établissement s’étaient déjà vus remettre 359 manuels scolaires couvrant toutes matières des 4 premières années du cycle primaire par le Président de la Fondation. Le Prince avait cependant à cette époque promis de revenir compléter cette distribution et d’offrir les manuels couvrant les deux dernières années du cycle primaire aux jeunes élèves ainsi que quelques manuels supplémentaires de quatrième année.

Aussi, c’est avec joie que la direction, le corps enseignant et les élèves de l’école Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei ont appris que Samdech Preah Mohessara venait tenir sa promesse en ce début d’année. L’émotion était d’autant plus grande que l’école portant le nom de Sa Majesté la Reine-Mère, chacun était profondément ému de bénéficier ainsi de l’attention et du soutien continu d’un membre éminent de la Famille Royale.

Après la rituelle entrevue avec le directeur et les enseignants de l’établissement, le Président de la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong a procédé à la distribution de 300 manuels scolaires couvrant toutes les matières de la quatrième, de la cinquième et de la sixième année du cycle primaire aux élèves qui attendaient impatiemment de pouvoir posséder leur propres livres. Dans un environnement où, en dépit des nombreuses améliorations apportées par la politique du Gouvernement Royal, les classes demeurent surchargées et où de nombreux élèves doivent se partager de trop rares manuels, une telle distribution peut avoir un impact déterminant sur les conditions d’enseignement et ainsi contribuer à réduire l’échec scolaire encore trop important.

Après la distribution de manuels scolaires, Samdech Preah Mohessara a par ailleurs offert à l’établissement un ordinateur entièrement équipé (unité centrale, moniteur et imprimante-scanner-photocopieuse), répondre ainsi à une requête formulée par la direction de l’école primaire Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei. Outre le fait qu’il donnera la possibilité d’initier les élèves à l’informatique, cet ordinateur permettra surtout de moderniser et de rationaliser sa gestion administrative de l’établissement.

Samdech Preah Mohessara NORODOM Chakrapong a par ailleurs annoncé à ses hôtes que la Fondation Samdech Norodom Racvivong continuerait de soutenir l’école Samdech Preah Akka Mohesei en 2010, notamment en offrant 10 ordinateurs supplémentaires qui permettront à l’établissement de créer une classe informatique.
