On 19 March 2009, Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong , Neak Moneang NORODOM Kachanipha and his team undertook to visit two schools located in the srok of Oudong, Kg. Speu province : the Primary Schools of Tuol Sovong and Sangkha Satrey Khmer, the latest in a series of schools which have been supported by the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation for the past ten months. The Foundation’s team first visited the Tuol Sovong School, then the Sangkha Satrey Khmer School, according to now well established agenda.

As usual, both visits were carried out with the view of distributing textbooks to students and studying the needs of each school regarding the creation of vegetable gardens and fish raising ponds in order to ensure food security for both the teachers and students and encourage technical teaching in this field. In both schools, HRH Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong was solemnly but warmly welcomed by the Headmaster, the teachers and the students. In each school, the President of the Foundation Samdech Norodom Racvivong then discussed with the Headmasters and teachers about the state of their school, the number of pupils, their difficulties, their immediate needs and the way these needs and difficulties could be answered by the Foundation.

When visiting the Sangkha Satrey Khmer Primary School, the Foundation’s President was particularly moved to learn that many of the pupils belong to the families of former refugees from Site B and Site 2, which were well known by the Royal Family.

In each school, young students from Primary School Year 1 to Year 4 were given a total of 333 textbooks. These textbooks were donated thanks to the personal funds of Samdech Preah Mahessara, to the support of the French Embassy in Cambodia and especially, to the donations made by Their Majesties the King-Father and the Queen-Mother who are also granting their generous support to the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation.

Students of both schools were delighted to receive these textbooks, personally handed to them by His Royal Highness Samdech Preah Mahessara NORODOM Chakrapong. Each child was grateful and moved by this testimony of the Royal Family’s kindness. Owning the textbooks will help prevent the children’s deprived families from facing supplementary expense while allowing them to better focus on their studies.

The teachers and the Headmasters of both Primary Schools expressed their gratefulness as well while attending the distribution which will allow their schools to enhance the teaching environment. Samdech Preah Mahessara promised each school to come back soon in order to donate textbooks covering Year 5 and Year 6 of Primary School.

After having handed the textbooks to the children, Samdech Preah Mahessara went on to discuss with the Headmasters and the teachers the details of the establishment of a vegetable garden and the development of fish raising as well as the technical teachings which could be developed in relation with these projects. In both schools, the Headmasters and teachers were utterly interested by the project and were glad to be involved in its elaboration with the Foundation’s team. Indeed, the need for a rich and well balanced nutrition remains a major concern for deprived rural schools. Following this preliminary study phase, it was agreed that the Foundation team would soon come back to launch the project. The Foundation will then supply necessary equipment, seeds and fingerlings so that the target schools can be able to start implementing the project without having to support extra costs.

Before saying goodbye to their hosts, Samdech Preah Mahessara and his team posed in each school for the usual photo souvenir session with the students, teachers and Headmasters. They left the schools surrounded by the moved gratefulness of all and promised to soon come back in order to pursue and complete the humanitarian activities of the Samdech Norodom Racvivong Foundation.
