The Foundation opened its doors officially on May 24, 2008 with computer classes.
Its President, H.R.H Samdech Preah Mahessara Norodom Chakrapong and Neak Moneang Norodom Kachanipha were on hand to welcome students as well as offer invaluable advice on being good citizens and to make learning a cornerstone for their futures as well as contribute to the development of the nation. This included donations of computer course books, note books, and pens to each student.
The students’ enthusiasm and gratefulness for the education opportunity was resounded with pledges to study hard for their own success.
The foundation offers both weekday and weekend classes for students from poor families. Two weekdays are held, one each from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Mondays through Fridays), while weekend classes are held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Each classroom comprises 10 students, resulting in an initial enrolment student body of 40. The popularity of the classes has sparked keen interest with numerous enquiries and registrations for the courses’ next term.
To meet the demands of this, the foundation has forwarded proposals to possible donors in the hope of obtaining much neede funding to expand these classes with H.R.H Samdech Preah Mahessara’s himself pledging his own finances to undertake some of the expansion plans.
At least fifteen more computers are needed to undertake the immediate short term expansion of these classes and plans are proceeding forward to have new and larger classes open for the following term in August 2008.
In addition, the Foundation will be providing much needed course books for economically-challenged primary school-going students, expected to be undertaken in July 2008.
